Stacyc Class: Discussion had related to very young riders and a stacyc scooter class. Potential sponsors for medallions/awards ect. may be available. Further discussion implied that the class or race would be unofficial, for fun only, and for very young riders not ready to ride in the PeeWee Classes. Race could occur as a pre-race on small simple course. Further discussion and confirmations needed.

Updated: Further discussion had, pilot to occur at Cat Scratch race. Further discussion to be had.

Update: Pilot well received however due to weather conditions and length of race, the race was shortened by ten minutes. Learnings and questions:

A race for very young/inexperienced individuals may require exceptions, such as adjustment to course and time.

PeeWee is to be a “D” course only, new courses are not required of clubs. However, clubs may make adjustments if needed. Ex.: “Little” D’s race separate from “Big” D’s.

International Motorsports has a Stacyc friendly race course to be set-up and be piloted at a future race. This would be a bonus race only.

Items for Review (from club members): Deferred at this time, for discussion at AGM:

  • Review of bike and tire sizes, e-bikes for kids classes.

  • Review of kids classes, noted that not all clubs familiar with Stacyc bikes for kids and the capabilities of the machines. Note: there is no Stacyc specific class at this time.

Discussion of complaints and learnings from Bar Bender Race (Merritt):

  • Complaints that “D” course was too difficult for some younger riders, this includes classes that have e-bikes which are not capable of the same inclines as gas-powered. PN to review further and provide additional guidance after AGM.

  • Lost individuals occurred at the race; racers are instructed not to leave the race course if unable to proceed, or if have left the course and are unable to return their bike, to wait on or as close to race course as possible while being visable. This allows the sweepers to assist and/or send for help.

  • Passing at the gas pits and/or checkpoints; this is permissible if provided the opportunity and not directed otherwise. Passing is NOT permitted at timing gate.

PN to provide responses to club regarding complains/comments.

Topic of Sweepers: A comment was offered regarding the need for more sweepers for some races and better communication with PN timing/scoring personnel. Clubs provide sweepers, however PN keeps track of racers. PN to provide guidance (not rules) on sweeping, including best practice communication and equipment needs to sweeping a race.

Question from Parent of Young Racer: Parent asked about kids progressing from “C” course to “B” course, while winning races in “C” course, but also racing “B” course. Can racers race more than one course/class? If so, how does the point system work for this?

Answer: A person can race in two different classes, but points will not be awarded for both races, nor can you “podium” in classes. Progressing racers are encouraged to try out the next class/course up, but points can only be received for one class. If successful in higher class and points are awarded, the points applied to other class raced are lost, or vise versa.

PN member may provide explanation to asking parent.
