OHSS Changes

Previously I posted that Wendy Dyck of the OHSS was going to take the points from the Dragon Spray and put them towards the OHSS Series. Well apparently it was still in the planning stages, and we all know how well plans can work. So the plan now is to leave the Dragon Spray a PN race and not count it towards the OHSS. (But as a PN member I still would ask OHSS racers to race just for the practice.) Instead there will be a night race before the Rev Limiter Hare Scrambles (Sept 11 & 12, Vernon, BC) Also not to discrimiate towards those without lighting coils, or those afraid of the dark, there will now be one throwaway. Please check out our friends at the OHSS for more information.

RCMP Enforcement of Third Party Liability Insurace

A rider heading to the Piston Run Cross Country has informed me that the RCMP are actively enforcing the need for third party liability in a rather boneheaded way. They are turning around riders at Tamahi (big white bridge) if they don't have the insurance. Racing insurance from the GVMC, the club hosting the event, will cover all racers on race day. I would suggest taking the road to the Sleese Memorial, this road will hook-up with the Chiliwack Bench Road which will take you to the riding area. Also the Bench Road connects to the Promontory Heights. These roads are narrower and curvier, so going will be slower and might be a headache for larger vehicles.

Also I strongly suggest that you can complain to the RCMP Chilliwack Detachment (604) 792-4611 and politely suggest that their enforcement method may be illegal. (Contrary to Section 2 Subsection C of the Canadian Charter of Right and Freedoms with allows for the right of peaceful assembly. And it might be a stretch but it could be contrary to Section 11 Subsection D which states that everyone is "to be presumed innocent until proven guilty according to law in a fair and public hearing by an independent and impartial tribunal") because you can't be turned around since your motorcycle is still in the truck and you have not commited any offence of any kind at the time of being turned around. No matter what happens, please keep a cool head in this situation, be persistent and polite.

Also it should be no suprise that there will be RCMP members at the race. So please make an effort to avoid getting caught and I do not mean outrunning the RCMP. Organizing a shuttle truck would be the best option.

Please note that the precedding comments are from me, Michael Fodor, PNWMA Webmaster, and is not of the PNWMA, the association, affiliated clubs, any of it's members or the executive.

2010 "Race Your Face Off" Consolidated Racing Calendar

Super Seniors start earlier.

The starting order for PN events has been changed so that the Super Senior class starts after the Senior Expert class. This has been done so that the Senior Amatuer and Vet Amatuer classes don't have to face the humiliation of being passed by riders 10 - 20 years older than them. (I race Vet Am) Class numbers will be changed accordingly so you can still use them as reference for starting order at the races.

New PN Class Numbers for 2010. (NMA in brackets)

Masters (AA) 1000
Expert (Open A) 2000
Vet Expert (Vet A) 3000
Intermediate (Open B) 4000

Senior Amateur (Senior B) 8000
Junior Over (Open C) 9000
Women (Women) 10000
Junior Under (15 & Under) 11000

Also a few changes to the rules:

  • The PN asks the organizers to have a minimum of four (4) riders doing sweep at an ORS event.
  • We would also like to remind riders that are timing out, to stay out of the way of riders that are racing. The organizers should post a clock ahead of the lap check and a seperate lane should be made for timing out riders.
  • All riders on the race course should be wearing a helmet approved for motorized use. It has to have DOT certification at minimum.
  • Any racer caught cheating will either disqualified, dropped 5 places or have one lap removed.

Class Changes

Junior Over/Under classes change to Junior Over/Under.

Confused? Well allow me to explain. The class changes from a motor size based class to an age based class. The split is at 15 years of age. Riders, 15 years old or younger at the time of signup will enter the Under class, while riders 16 years or older enter the Over class. Riders winning the overall in the Under class will be bumped into the Junior Over class. Motorcycle size or type is not a factor.

The Junior Under class is equivalent to the NMA's 15 and Under class, while the Junior Over class is equivalent to Open C in the NMA. Please ensure that you are in the correct class for the US races.

These number colors are not mandatory. The PNWMA recommends that riders use these colors to help identify riders at the checks, and for spectator identification. The numbers used should be the last three numbers of your transponder ID, which will correspond to your 2010 PNWMA race license number. Or if you are proud of your placing, you can use your placing in last year's series to be your number for this year. That number is transferable between classes. Also do keep in mind that your bikes look faster with numbers on them as well. I will try to have a list of the transponder numbers for those riders with one already. Also rider's with licenses from ice racing can exchange them for current ones at any race.

I've also contacted a couple of local graphics companies and provided them with PNWMA logos, so this way you can add these logos to your graphics kit.
