Default Hire a mechanic

Once I forgot to put oil in my engine. I raced the Sasquatch and then next day trail riding. It finally went "bang" on a long full throttle climb!

So what is it your trying to get to: how great the oil residue was that got you that far or or the fact you did something not to bright?

I was kinda wondering what was up. I would have thought an engine with no oil would grenade at the race not the next day. I mean racing is tough on bikes. Sounds like you had a leak.

Hiring a mechanic could be expensive. I mean how much maintennance do you do on a bike in a year of racing. Several hundred hours? That could add up. Plus working on your own bike allows you to be better accquainted with and be able to work on the bike on the side of the trail. Which is way better than pushing.

Thumbs up

Ouch.... I can totally relate.... I raced Herling Island this year... and in the process of my oil being changed... it never got replaced... so needless to say my bike chugged through 1.75 laps of one of the muddiest races I've ever ridden before it decided to pack it in... not sure if I was more bummed about hanging on the beach for 3 hours, having a crapped out brand new bike... or losing my first place lead... either way it's one of lifes little lessons I wish to not relive.... Great new forum... and even cooler people are using it!

Well yes and no, see what most people don't know is a 2 stroke gear box will work for some time with little oil in it, this you have found out.But what really requires a proper oil level for is for the clutch action to work right so after a few clutch engagements your clutch would be very very harsh and would tell you you had a problem long before bearings and other bits started to fail. no ?

BTW did I ever tell you about the guy (?) who raced both 2 and 4 bangers on the same day and didn't mark the fuel cans to show which one had the pre mix in it? Dohhh! wasn't to cool after the refueling run. Wanna guess who

Or the guy who poured the 2 stroke oil in the full jerry can but never shook it, then filled up his bike tank with top (unmixed) half.
